Poplar Equal 6 Panel Door with Raised Panels

This door style was probably created before the Victorian period, but came to be popularized during this period. A very large percentage of Victorian style homes had this door style or a slight variation of this door style. Along with the standard six panel style (#5503) , these are the two most common solid wood door styles still produced, sold through lumber yards, and other building supply distributors. As with the standard six panel, this this standard four panel design also accomodates being turned into a dutch door, which is divided into two sections, with both hinged separately. As our arts and crafts, or mission style, with flat panel, the door feels far more contemporary.

Our Arts and Crafts or Mission Style Standard 4-Panel Flat Panel Door is made up of three parts:

  • Panels- Raised Panels float within the frame of the door, and are not glued to allow for expansion and contraction of the door panels. Raised Panel doors styles can have either horizontal or vertical panels.* All horizontal panels have horizontal wood grain.
  • Stiles- The two long vertical pieces on each side of the door. One side is attached to the door jamb with hinges. The other side is bored for the door knob or lever, so that it can be latch to the jamb when shut.
  • Rails- the horizontal and/or vertical pieces in the door that surround the panels and attach to the stiles.
