Poplar Equal 6 Panel Door with Raised Panels

This eight panel door design, or variations of this design, first appeared in the colonial American period. Different versions of this door, in raised panel form, can be seen throughout homes in Colonial Williamnsburg in Virginia, and in other early settlements in Colonial America. This door style looks equally at home today, in a high end custom home, for the homeowner that doesn't want the uniformity of a cookie cutter home look. This door design looks great in both the raised panel and flat panel versions, and with different types thrown in, you can achieve almost any look that you want for your home.

Our Arts and Crafts or Mission Style Colonial 8 Panel Flat Panel Door is made up of three parts:

  • Panels- Panels float within the frame of the door, and are not glued to allow for expansion and contraction of the door panels. Panel doors styles can have either horizontal or vertical panels.* All horizontal panels have horizontal wood grain.
  • Stiles- The two long vertical pieces on each side of the door. One side is attached to the door jamb with hinges. The other side is bored for the door knob or lever, so that it can be latch to the jamb when shut.
  • Rails- the horizontal and/or vertical pieces in the door that surround the panels and attach to the stiles.
