Standard 6 Panel Door with Flat Panels

This door has long been a favorite of homeowners and builders. It is the most common style of panel door made. This door commonly has smaller panels at the top, with four longer panels below, in rows of two. This style of door can also be easily be made into a dutch door, a door split into a top and bottom section, each hinged separately. The dorr is split in the center of the second horizontal rail up from the bottom of the door, at about a 36” height.. Some people also say that the doors' top two panels, in combination with the horizontal and vertical rails, form the shape of a cross. This door can be done in both raised panels, and flat panel arts and crafts, or mission style doors, as they are also known. By changing this panel style, the door has a completely different look.

Our Arts and Crafts or Mission Style Standard 6 Panel Flat Panel Bifold Door is made up of three parts:

  • Panels- Panels float within the frame of the door, and are not glued to allow for expansion and contraction of the door panels. Panel doors styles can have either horizontal or vertical panels.* All horizontal panels have horizontal wood grain.
  • Stiles- The two long vertical pieces on each side of the door. One side is attached to the door jamb with hinges. The other side is bored for the door knob or lever, so that it can be latch to the jamb when shut.
  • Rails- the horizontal and/or vertical pieces in the door that surround the panels and attach to the stiles.
